Digital Skills and Sidehustle: The Journey

 Holla!!!!

This is your girl, S T A to the L L I O N, 🤣🤣 and I am here to razzle and dazzle your beautiful eyes, ears, nose and mouth with an ear full of my digital skill journey.

Digital Skills are quickly becoming a rampant fad in today's world, and that is no small feat. Yes!! Indeed, it has become pertinent overnight to possess a soft skill to survive in this world of ours.

What are they, you might ask? These are skills that require less physical stress and more mental and creative acumen to wade through. At least, that is how I would define it. Some digital Skills include email marketing, copywriting, web development, UI/UX design, customer service, graphic design and so much more.

But how does one find the right connect, the right environment and the best tutors to garner this feat? Seeing as, there is in existence a limited amount of resources and much needed care is being ascribed to its management.

Such was the case for little young me, as I pondered on the possibility of obtaining one. I had always had an interest in upscaling my value and being equipped for the market that is existent now.

I had been learning about many things, loved to write, in fact, I had written a lot of material but got uninspired. Then I discovered Content Creation and started picking up on some things but was never really dedicated.

This is until Sidehustle Internship came my way. A friend of mine had just advertised the link and I quickly jumped on it and voila, I recruited four more people (well, at least I saw 4 referrals, so I assume I recruited them) and the journey began.

I was actually met with confusion and a lot of bewilderment when I saw the amount of people in the Telegram group. In fact, I was beginning to think I entered one chance. In my mind, it would be like one of those courses where nobody really has your time, so you are just existing.

Omo, I was going to be proved wrong, because immediately we started, the mentors were hands on and ready to tutor us and answer our interesting and repetitive questions. Tasks and challenges were given and we had to combine that with learning and researching.

It was no small feat at all and I can tell you, it was a ride full of surprises. My first encounter with a mentor almost ended in fight, but we thank God for all good things. Emotional intelligence coming to play at the right moment.

The Jobberman Soft Skills course was the icing on the cake, as I had previously taken the course, but was happy to take it again and refresh my memory on salient life and job lessons.

The Content creation class opened my eyes to content strategy, repurposing, using search engine optimization and marketing to optimize visibility, use of Canva to create beautiful designs, content calendar creation, copywriting, building your portfolio, managing plagiarism and using Grammarly to fine-tune your content. These and many more made the Sidehustle Internship worth the stress.

I say this because, these things were things I had picked up in personal research but never got to practise, and this internship helped me do that and hone those skills. I have even designed a flyer for the poultry my sister runs.

I even got a job interview, which I am hoping would pan out beautifully, and successfully forced myself to open an Upwork account. Truly, my mentors Teminiloluwa Abiola, Mojolaloluwa and Rachael Philip were an inspiration and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have met them.

So, what are you waiting for? Learn a digital skill today!! Trust Sidehustle and join the next cohort to see how well you can be pushed. You would be glad you did and would thank yourself afterwards.
